The Missing Diamond…

The Missing Diamond
Newsletter 3, January 2026
There is an investigation going on in my house… Where is my missing Diamond?I probably need to specify here… I am not talking about a sparkly jewel in the sense of a ring, earring or necklace. What I have lost is a glittering piece of literature – my copy of Diamond Solitaire, the second book in the Peter Diamond series by top crime author Peter Lovesey. As you can see from the photo of my bookshelf below, I had a full set. But now there is a space where the second one should be…2025 was considered a rich year for crime fiction with new high-quality releases, as well as reprints, of some classic works. I had always planned to focus on one of my favourite authors in this month’s newsletter, so it seems apt to celebrate the work of Peter Lovesey, who died in April aged 88. Lovesey created the strong-willed Peter Diamond, a twenty-two book strong series I read virtually back to back. The majority of the books are situated in Bath, where Diamond is head of CID. My favourite is probably Another One Goes Tonight, although The Tooth Tattoo and Stagestruck are also strong contenders, and every title has its magical moments. If you have read Lovesey, hit reply and let me know your favourite. Or if you haven’t, I strongly recommend you do.
Next in the Tom Robertson series…Book 4 is coming along nicely. I think. The plot is in place. It is now a matter of chipping away to make it readable. The working title is still Body in the Thames. The hook is going to be something like – ‘If the bad guys end up losing, does it matter how?’ Reply and let me know what you think? The story includes killing off a character, albeit not a major one. A good decision or not? I’ve heard it’s better than killing a pet, which is a total no-no. These first four books – Wrath of Revenge, Deadly Justice, Dangerous Reprisals and soon Body in the Thames – have made themselves into a miniseries. They are all set within the first couple of weeks of Tom’s career in the Met. Book 5, with the current title Murder on the Beach, is also a work in progress. The plot is set around a smaller set of characters, just Tom and five other officers – the formidable Inspector Fiona Marshall, and the four DCs in Tom’s team, including the one and only Teddy Bearing. Are you a member of a book group?Would they be interested in reviewing one of my books? If so email agw@agwinkworth.com and I can get in touch.
Want to join my team? I am looking to recruit to my ARC and street team ahead of the release of books 4 and 5. If you would like to come on board, leave a review for one of my books, email me a link or screenshot agw@agwinkworth.com and get an early free copy of the next book.
